Hey Beautiful!

I do hope you know how absolutely radiant you are. While the world puts so much emphasis on external appearances; it’s truly what’s inside that matters most…it’s what gives us our magical mystery, magnetism and glow.

So I hope you won’t ever dim the beautiful light of your presence for anyone, whether it’s someone you know or a complete stranger.

One of the ways that we as women unconsciously dim our light is apologizing when we haven’t done anything wrong. We say “I’m sorry” when getting out of the elevator if there is someone else standing there waiting to get on.

We say “sorry” when wanting to interject with our ideas in meetings. We apologize for not wearing make up when taking Zoom calls.

Apologizing, or saying “sorry” or “I’m sorry” is so deeply embedded into social behavior, that it’s almost like a reflex.

It’s an unconscious social norm which serves to shrink ourselves down for others. And why should anyone be uncomfortable in the light of our presence?

Where (and when) did we pick this habit? Perhaps we learned this behavior in childhood, or perhaps we observed others around us doing it, and then we adopted it for ourselves, without truly understanding what this behavior does to tamp our beautiful spirit down.

So what can we do instead of apologizing? How about saying “excuse me“, “oops” or even nothing at all instead.

It’s not easy to break old habits, and in fact, it can take a long time to change them. And even with conscious effort, that old reflex will still come up from time to time.

So please, don’t be hard on yourself if find yourself eeking out a “sorry” before you can catch it.

A great way to start is to simply take notice of when you apologize, and make a mental note of it each time it happens. Then next time, try to remember to try saying something other than “sorry” and see how that feels.

You’ve sooooo got this my friend!

Keep shining that beautiful light of yours!

XOXO
